Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Selatan adalah salah satu Daerah Tingkat II di Provinsi Kalimantan Selatan, Indonesia. Ibukota kabupaten ini terletak di Kandangan. Kabupaten ini memiliki luas wilayah 1.703 km² dan berpenduduk sebanyak 195.677 jiwa (2000).
Motto “Rakat Mufakat” (bahasa Banjar)
Suku asli adalah suku Banjar yang terdapat di seluruh kecamatan dan suku Dayak Bukit yang terdapat di kecamatan Loksado. Suku bangsa di kabupaten ini antara lain:
1. Suku Banjar: 188.672 jiwa
2. Suku Dayak Bukit: 0 jiwa
3. Suku Jawa: 2.309 jiwa
4. Suku Bugis: 68 jiwa
5. Suku Madura: 308 jiwa
6. Suku Buket: 3.778 jiwa
7. Suku Mandar: 2 jiwa
8. Suku Bakumpai: 3 jiwa
9. Suku Sunda: 147 jiwa
10. Lainnya: 390 jiwa
